Sustainability has been of interest to me since the 60’s, and was central to the Development Plan of Arcosanti. But we tend to miss the gorilla due to in-attentional blindness. “See:” The Crisis of Civilization, Surviving Progress, The Careerists, The Fuck-it Point, Limits to Growth, and Wait a minute. The collapse of complex systems due to in-attentional blindness is central to Millennium Blues and Year of the Jaguar. Once we reach the tipping point, the necessity for change will becomes obvious. It is my hope that love will inspire optimism to overcome the current darkness. Currently, our approach is the equivalent of rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. Although our circumstances inspires music as found in the Swedish proverb: “Those who wish to sing always find a song,” but until we learn UBUNTU, our situation is dire (“An anthropologist proposed a game to children in an African tribe.
